Projeto Febre

Amarela BR

The “Yellow fever project Brazil” (in Portuguese: Projeto Febre Amarela BR) was created to contribute to prevention of human cases of Yellow Fever by monitoring the occurrence of yellow fever virus (YFV) infections in non-human primates (NHPs) and mosquito vectors in the five political regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast and South). Once the virus is identified, epidemiological alerts are generated to reinforce vaccination and avoid human cases.

Despite the availability of an effective vaccine which is freely distributed by the national health system (SUS), l cases of yellow fever in humans still occur, eventually leading to deaths.

Monkeys usually die when affected by yellow fever; dead animals are important sentinels that indicate viral circulation, but do not transmit the disease to humans. So, if you find dead monkeys, please contact us or the local health authorities and report you finding.

On this site, you will find information about the progress of the project, locations where NHPs samplings is being performed, updated results obtained so far and additional information on how to help in the fight against yellow fever.
